Activity Level
Moderate
This workshop is not recommended for those with mobility limitations. While none of the hikes are particularly long, participants should be comfortable walking 2–5 miles throughout the day over uneven terrain, including sandy beaches, rocky shorelines, forest trails, driftwood, and occasional inclines.
Several locations require stepping over rocks, navigating tide pools, or walking on loose sand. Good balance and sure footing are important, especially when carrying camera gear.
If you’re unsure whether this activity level is a good fit, please don’t hesitate to reach out before registering. We’d be happy to discuss the physical demands of the workshop and help determine if it’s the right fit for you.
Who Is This Workshop For?
If you love rugged coastlines, ancient redwood forests, dramatic sunsets, and the adventure of photographing spectacular landscapes, this workshop is for you.
Designed for photographers of all skill levels, you’ll receive personalized instruction while exploring some of the Pacific Northwest’s most iconic locations. Whether your goal is to improve your technical skills, build a stronger portfolio, or simply enjoy an unforgettable photography experience with a small group of like-minded women, you’ll leave inspired, more confident, and with images you’ll be proud to share.
Day 1 – Welcome to the Southern Oregon Coast
We’ll meet at the 11 AM to make the scenic drive to Brookings, Oregon.
If you plan to arrive the day before the workshop begins, we recommend staying at the Courtyard by Marriott Medford Airport.
Upon arriving in Brookings, we’ll stop for a late lunch and give everyone time to pick up groceries, snacks, or any personal items needed for the week before checking into our hotel.
That evening, we’ll head to Harris Beach State Park for our first sunset. With its dramatic sea stacks, rugged coastline, and tide pools, Harris Beach is the perfect introduction to the spectacular landscapes we’ll be photographing throughout the workshop.
After sunset, we’ll return to the hotel to relax and get ready for our first full day of photography.
Day 2 – Redwoods & Battery Point Lighthouse
Today we’ll spend the majority of our day exploring the magnificent redwood forests of Northern California. Rather than rushing out before sunrise, we’ll time our visit to give us the best opportunity for fog, soft light, and dramatic light rays filtering through the towering trees.
We’ll explore several of the area’s most photogenic groves, photographing everything from intimate forest details and lush ferns to grand compositions that capture the incredible scale of these ancient giants. Throughout the day, you’ll receive personalized instruction on composition, exposure, and techniques for photographing forests.
In the afternoon, we’ll head to Battery Point Lighthouse, where we’ll photograph the historic lighthouse before stopping to visit the nearby harbor seals.
If conditions are favorable, we’ll finish the day with an optional sunset near our hotel for anyone who would like one more opportunity to photograph the coast.
Day 3 – Southern Oregon Coast
Start the morning at Lone Ranch Beach to photograph the incredible tide pools at low tide. From there we’ll explore some of the area’s most scenic coastal viewpoints, including Whaleshead Beach, Natural Bridges, and Arch Rock, with time to slow down and work each location. We’ll end the day at Secret Beach, where we’ll photograph the sea stacks and dramatic coastline through golden hour and sunset.
Day 4 – Favorites, Editing & Farewell
Our final day gives us the flexibility to revisit a favorite location or photograph anywhere we may have missed due to weather, tides, or changing light. Depending on conditions, we may return to Lone Ranch Beach, Harris Beach, or another favorite coastal location for one last morning of photography.
In the afternoon, we will have some downtime back at the hotel. During this time, those who are interested are welcome to join an optional image review and editing session, where we’ll go through images from the trip, discuss editing techniques, and answer questions. If you’d rather relax, enjoy a break before our final outing, or continue working on your own images, you’re welcome to do that as well.
We’ll wrap up the workshop with a sunset at Meyers Creek Beach, one of the most spectacular viewpoints on the southern Oregon coast and the perfect way to end our time together.
Capture stunning seascapes and forests!

We’ll be staying at the Beachfront Inn in beautiful Brookings, Oregon, our home base for the duration of the workshop. Your workshop tuition includes a private hotel room (single occupancy), giving you your own space to relax, recharge, edit images, or simply enjoy the sound of the ocean after a full day in the field.
