Join us on the rugged shoreline of Lake Superior for a photography experience that blends creative growth, connection, and adventure. We’ll explore iconic spots like Split Rock Lighthouse, Gooseberry Falls, and hidden backroad gems at the peak of fall color.
Designed for women photographers of all levels, this workshop offers hands-on instruction in landscapes, waterfalls, long exposures, and creative techniques—all in a supportive, inspiring environment. Come ready to create, connect, and capture the magic of autumn along Minnesota’s most scenic stretch of coast.

Who is this for?
North Shore workshop is for women photographers—of all skill levels—who want to slow down, connect with nature, and grow their creativity alongside a supportive community. Whether you’re shooting with a DSLR, mirrorless camera, or your phone, this retreat is for you if you crave inspiration, scenic landscapes, and the time to truly focus on your craft without distractions.

Day 1 – Arrival

Welcome meeting, overview, gear prep
Sunset at Black Beach
A dramatic, photogenic beach with dark volcanic sand, unique rock formations, and crashing Lake Superior waves—perfect for silhouettes and long exposures.
Day 2 – Waterfalls and Epic Views
Sunrise at Gooseberry Falls State Park
Multi-tiered waterfalls surrounded by forest—ideal for wide-angle compositions and silky water shots using slow shutter speeds.
Afternoon classroom session on Photo Pills and astrophotography
Learn to plan your night skies and star shots using the Photo Pills app; tips on settings, gear, and scouting for Milky Way photography.
Gondola ride to photograph the view at Lutsen Mountains
Ride to the summit for panoramic views of Lake Superior and fall color-covered ridgelines—great for layered landscape images.
Day 3 – Lighthouses and Rivers
Sunrise at Split Rock Lighthouse
Capture one of Minnesota’s most iconic landmarks perched on a cliff above Lake Superior—especially striking with morning light and reflection shots from the beach.
Drive scenic backroads for fall color
Wander lesser-known routes like 600 Road or Honeymoon Trail—quiet, winding drives bursting with vibrant foliage, rustic cabins, and peaceful forest views.
Sunset and Milky Way at Split Rock
Photograph the lighthouse under twilight, then shift to night settings as the Milky Way rises—an unforgettable long exposure opportunity.
Day 4 – Rivers and Grand Marais
Sunrise at Temperance River
Dynamic river scenery with powerful rapids and deep gorges—perfect for experimenting with shutter speed and composition.
Day trip to photograph Grand Marais
Explore this charming harbor town with colorful boats, lighthouses, and artistic coastal textures—great for street and landscape photography.
Cascade River State Park
Lush trails and multiple waterfalls in a forested canyon setting—ideal for layered compositions and moody woodland shots.
Day 5 – Farewells
No planned outings, just breakfast and goodbyes.

How Do I Get there?
You have two primary airport choices:

Duluth International Airport (DLH): Approximately 55 miles (about 1 hour and 15 minutes by car) from Silver Bay, DLH is the closest airport. It’s a convenient option with shorter ground travel time.

Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP): Located about 214 miles (approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes by car) from Silver Bay, MSP offers a wider selection of flights and airlines.

Lodging
Our North Shore workshop will be hosted at the beautiful Tettegouche Lodge, a secluded 32-acre retreat nestled along the Baptism River near Silver Bay, MN. This spacious log lodge offers a warm, rustic atmosphere with modern comforts, making it the perfect setting for creativity, reflection, and connection.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Beth Mancuso is an accomplished nature photographer hailing from Minnesota. She is the founder of Women’s Photography Circle and has gained recognition for her work through various prestigious platforms such as National Geographic, Huff Post, ABC News, Midwest Living, Sony, Tamron, and Outdoor Photographer, among others.
Beth’s talent and dedication have earned her accolades, including winning Sony’s female landscape photography contest and securing second place in Outdoor Photographer’s Great American Landscape contest. As an official Nat Geo Yourshot photographer, she has also been featured on the Nat Geo Channel’s TV show Assignment Inspiration.
Before focusing on landscape photography, Beth successfully ran a portrait business for a decade. She is a permit carrier for National Parks and Forests, as well as being CPR and Wilderness First Aid certified.
