Springtime at the Smithsonian Gardens, Washington DC
- We will start the day at 9 am at the Kathrine Dulin Folger Rose Garden. Visit this link to learn more about this stunning garden. https://gardens.si.
edu/gardens/folger-rose- garden/ - We will explore other gardens, ending at the famous National Botanical Gardens
- Break for lunch ( brown bag) around 11:30 at a beautiful garden table.
- The workshop will end at 3:00 pm.
- We will be walking the entire workshop, but it is all flat.
- We will review images, share editing tips, and some creative tools
What you will learn:
- We will cover the techniques and settings to compose gorgeous flower images.
- Learning how to break all the rules of photography to get a creative one of a kind image
- Master natural light, work around challenging light, and make the best composition choice
- Learn how to use creative shooting techniques and tools to add a unique look to your photos
- Our after-session editing will review how to clean up your image and bring out the beauty with color and creative tools.
What to bring:
- Pack as light as possible due to all the walking
- TRIPODS ARE NOT ALLOWED! If you require one to shoot, this is not the workshop for you. The Smithsonian does not allow their use!
- Camera, SD cards, batteries, ND filter, small reflector, macro or zoom lens
- Water bottle
- Brown Bag lunch
- Sunscreen, sun hat
- If flying to the DC area, the closest airport is Washington Regan
- If staying in the DC/VA area there is a metro stop at the Smithsonian
- Uber drops off anywhere inside the National Mall
- Parking garages nearby are all day options for parking
- Please plan for traffic and arrive earlier than 9:00am in case you get delayed
- We will hold the workshop unless there are intense storms. There are inside gardens we can explore.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Lori Lankford is a seasoned nature photographer and digital artist celebrated for her unique perspective behind the lens. She is passionate about capturing the beauty of flowers, crafting abstract landscape scenes, and exploring creative close-ups. For the past six years, she has dedicated herself to sharing her expertise through teaching and leading workshops.
Two years ago, Lori joined the Women’s Photography Circle teaching team. There, she shares her passion by teaching online courses such as Lightroom and A Year of Creative Photography. Her goal is to help you see the world in a fresh new way and then capture it with your camera! Lori’s favorite places to travel are Charleston, Big Sur, and the Smokey Mountains, where she grew up.
