Into The North Shore We Go
I am so excited to be returning to the North Shore next fall! What is this North Shore? It’s Minnesota’s most beautiful region! It is the north eastern part of the state that runs along the big lake (aka Lake Superior). It is home to the most spectacular fall color, rivers, waterfalls, and of course the lake! The retreat is timed with when fall colors should be prime! This 5-day, 4 night women’s photography retreat will explore landscape photography, astrophotography, and waterfalls. We will be staying together at a gorgeous log home right on the Baptism River, minutes away from Tettegouche State Park.

WHAT – 5-day, 4 night photography workshop (ladies only)
WHEN – October 1st – Oct 5th, 2023
WHERE – North Shore, MN
COST – $3000 for a single executive suite with a private bath with jacuzzi tub (sold).
$2595 for a single bed with a shared bath (sold)
$2250 for shared occupancy room, and shared bathrooms. I have one room with 2 beds, and one with 3. (5 available)

WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED – Airfare, any other meals or beverages, trip insurance (highly recommend getting).
TOPICS COVERED – Manual mode, exposure, composition, light, self-portraits, astrophotography, long exposure, composites. Editing videos will be made available after the trip, along with image critiques. I will also be talking about ways to grow as an artist, conquer your fears, and tap into your creativity.
GROUP SIZE – 10 students, 1 assistant, and 1 instructor (read more about Beth here.)
EXPERIENCE – This course is for all levels. Both beginners and advanced photographers will walk away with new skills.
ENDURANCE – Students should expect moderate activity. There will be some longer hikes 2-3 miles with elevation involved.
GEAR – Recommended gear requirements are a DSLR or mirrorless camera, camera bag, tripod, filters, wide-angle lens with a large aperture, and zoom lens. A full list with details and specific products will be emailed to you.
ITINERARY – Students can expect to explore the area between Tettegouche State Park and Grand Marais, MN.
Retreat will start between 4-5 PM on the 1st and end after sunrise on the 5th.
TRAVEL – The nearest major airport is the Minneapolis – St. Paul International Airport. From there it is a little over a 3-hour drive to where we will be staying.
LODGING – Lodging is included in the price. We will be staying at a gorgeous log cabin right on the Baptism River and minutes away from Tettegouche State Park. See images below.

The North Shore workshop was the second one I went on with Beth. Her caring and compassionate demeanor and her personalized attention to each student help me grow as a photographer. The locations we went to were scouted by her to ensure we could make the most of the too short amount of time we had together. The locations were amazing and we were able to pivot if we needed to to accommodate the unpredictable weather. Would I go again, heck yeah! The workshop in Northern Minnesota was well planned. Beth spent alot of time helping me, as I am a beginner. Yet she knew how to challenge more experienced photographers. I am pleased with the photos I took and the skills I trained. I was nervous about staying in a home with a group of strangers. But every lady became a friend. I highly recommend the workshop.

Going to the North Shore during peak colors was a dream come true and I couldn’t have asked for a better group with whom to share the experience! Beth does a wonderful job of meeting a person where they are at, whether you are just starting out or have had a camera in your hand for as long as you can remember. She finds a way to help you find the confidence to step out of your comfort zone and try new things. Taking a trip with like-minded women is one of the best experiences and it was something that I didn’t know that I needed to help me grow as a photographer. It was so helpful to witness the creative process of others because it made me really examine a scene for all potential compositions versus falling into my default perspectives. You are guaranteed to walk away from one of Beth’s workshops with something gained – a new friendship, a new piece of knowledge, a new found love of photographing different subjects, a new or renewed sense of confidence in what you are doing, or maybe all of the above!

Color. All I wanted to be sure of on the North Shore workshop was color. Beautiful Minnesota fall color. I got that and I got so much more. Over four days I made new friends, learned new techniques, and found a forever mentor and friend. We hiked, we laughed, we encouraged each other, and we were close to tears one night as we heard Beth’s amazing and inspiring story. We captured the Milky Way, Artists Point, Lutsen Mountain and more. This was a heart-warming, life affirming experience. The camaraderie our group developed was amazing. Within about an hour of meeting each other it seemed as if we had known each other forever. Staying in a beautiful VRBO allowed us to break bread together, to learn about each other, to share stories and life events while giving us space if needed. More than an incredibly talented photographer and instructor, Beth is an amazing person. Authentic to the core, she makes all those around her feel comfortable as she guides you to the next level. I loved this so much I am already signed up for two more workshops with Beth and I am confident that are more than that in my future.
